mmmm... Del-icio-us?

i checked out del.icio.us and found it to be slightly similar to rollyo in the way that you can customize and narrow down which websites/blogs are drawn from, however de.licio.us is more like a portable bookmarking site that allowes you to have favourite webpages available to you at any computer.
in a way it also combines the concept of google trends - where it shows you the popularity or how many other users have linked to particular sites.

i'm unsure if this tool would be the most useful for research. in some ways though it may make searching more efficient and succinct. hrmmm

my fav technology

a cousin who works for skype in london first turned me on to this technology that allowes you to have phone-like conversations through your broadband line by simply downloading the free software and plugging in a microphone and speakers/headphones. it's been really amazing having conversations with friends who have been on overseas exchanges or family who live on the other side of the world. it's also really good if you just want to have a quick chat to a friend who happens to be online at the same time. overall a really great/cheap tool for communicating and staying in touch.

although i'm a little scared/allergic to cameras - i like the idea that with webcams you can basically communicate face to face with someone far away - making online conferencing accessible and cheap.

rollyo

i created a rollyo search device for fashion related topics by linking some useful websites and blogs. check it out.

Library-thang

I checked out librarything.com and added just a few books that i've read. It seems to function in a similar way to amazon.com, in fact it uses amazon to locate book titles.
Hopefully will add alot more, time permitting. You can view a snippet of my booklist to the right of my blog.
Verdict: useful.

RSS feeds

This week i learnt about RSS feeds and i set up an account with bloglines to keep me up to date with my favourite blogs and webpages such as 'the satorialist' and 'the facehunter' amongst others. I had no idea that this existed and it has turned out to be quite the useful little tool indeed.

I quite liked the simplicity of bloglines.com and how it allowes you to choose and search easily for feeds that you're interested in - providing a list of other related/popular blogs.

topix.com had a collection of up to the minute headlines, editorials, forums and polls for keeping up to date with the latest. Technorati seemed to have a multimedia aspect to it which was great for seeing associated videos or pictures related to your search topic.

I found syndic8.com to be a little more difficult to navigate than the others.
Overall very useful to know that RSS feeds exist.

Techno-phobia-schmobia

This week's mission was to check out flickr and various other photo management tools on the interweb. I signed up with flickr but have not as of yet uploaded any pics. However, to make up for this here is a link to my other blog that i set up over a year ago:

I like to post pictures and add little comments here and there if and when i have the time.

back to work following the brain drain

Due to exams I've completely neglected this blogOsphere project. My bad.

The week 2 project involved checking out a couple of social networking websites. I've been on facebook for a couple of months now (joined in a moment of weakness) so have become quite familiar with the 'pokes' and 'hugs' etc.
However, i'm a little weirded out by the fact that you can stalk people from afar and see what people are up to, their relationship status and any telling photos that they've decided to upload. I think i may give facebook a few more weeks before i completely ditch it. This will be difficult because it really was a good medium for staying in touch with friends/family overseas. Hrmm.
